Hi there, I'm Charlotte!

I'm the Founder of Charlotte Werner Nutrition PLLC and a Registered Dietitian. I have my Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York University. I am a passionate runner, enjoying distances ranging from half marathons through the 100-mile ultra (and beyond!). I have worked in a variety of settings including outpatient clinical, food, and sports nutrition.

In these roles, I have learned the importance of teamwork, empathy, and patience in achieving goals. These roles aided in my development of many skills. I was part of a multidisciplinary team clearing patients for surgery, worked with athletes to understand their body's specific needs, consulted on nutrient/health claims and US labeling, developed content and nutrition strategy, as well as educated patients, customer service, marketing, and consumers in the realm of nutrition.

I have worked with athletes of all abilities, from those getting started on their running journey all the way through professional/elite. I know what it's like to get started and I also know what it's like to be in the 29th hour of running.

What brings me the most joy is helping runners and endurance athletes to reach their goals in sports through nutrition.

I have spoken at a variety of events on nutrition including, most recently, The New York City Marathon Expo at the Javits Center on the Citizen's Stage (2023).

I'm excited to work together to ensure you have everything you need in your nutrition tank to feel your best while training and racing!

My Endurance Journey

I've been running for over 15 years. It all started in the beginning of high school when I began with running a few blocks out and then back . I still remember the feeling. The desire to push myself just a little further each day.

I grew up with a dad who had running intertwined into his life. He would run to work, run for fun, and run for his mental health. He is now a retired FDNY Captain and one of my biggest supports.

I joined cross country in high school but cannot say it was something I saw myself doing long term. I started running half marathons later in high school and in college, I ran for fun, pushing myself further and further while simultaneously learning more about nutrition and how important it is.

In college, I also continuously applied for the New York City Marathon. A dream of mine. I was rejected from the general lottery system many times and after a few years of applying (and not getting in!), I decided to start running ultramarathons, sort of in spite of the rejection ... because why not run further?

I told myself I would work hard to time qualify as a means for entry to the marathon and in 2022, my dream came true. I time-qualified for the New York City Marathon via the United Half and in 2023, I ran the race of my life at the marathon. A time I will never forget. Nutrition was a key part of my journey as a runner and without the many moments of tinkering with what I consume, how much, and when, I would not be where I am today in my own running career, making continuous improvements to this day.

Nutrition helped me to reach every goal I have set, but more importantly it's helped me achieve those goals while feeling my best, staying strong, and recovering well. I cannot wait to help each and every one of you achieve your goals through nutrition, too.

Certifications/Credentials

Education

  • M.S. Nutrition and Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition        Graduated: May 2020

    • Department of Nutrition and Food Studies Academic Excellence Award     GPA: 3.844

    • Specialties: Sports Nutrition, Pediatric Nutrition, Diseased Gut (Gastrointestinal Conditions), Weight Management

  • NYU Dietetic Internship          September 2017 – August 2018

    • Clinical Rotations at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s

      • New York University’s (NYU’s) Dietetic Internship program begins with a semester of coursework that covers everything from medical nutrition therapy to nutrition focused physical exam. This semester enabled me to go into the hospital portion of my internship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s feeling confident and knowledgeable about nutrition and nutrition care.

      • Following this semester, I went into my clinical, community, and dental rotations at approximately 40 hours per week. At Mount Sinai St. Luke’s where I did my Clinical Rotations, I was exposed to many facets of nutrition therapy and care. I spent time in the Cardiac Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, Bariatrics, and on general floors with patients who have various disease states. This wide range of exposure allowed me to see and understand the vast span of nutrition throughout the hospital and gain experience in different fields of nutrition with various types of patients.

      • While in the hospital at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, I was fortunate to do both a food service rotation and clinical nutrition management rotation. During this time, I learned about how a hospital kitchen is run, including how food is ordered, brought up to the floors, and delivered successfully to patients as well as how it is made and food safety. In my Clinical Nutrition Management rotation, I gained an understanding of how to manage the Clinical Nutrition department of a hospital and what that entails.

    • Community Rotation at Square Roots and Dental Rotation at New York University’s Dental School

      • Square Roots in Brooklyn, NY is an urban hydroponic farm that utilizes shipping containers. During this time, I was able to see a possible “future” for how we farm and a way that we may be able to bring food to more people through the use of these shipping containers. Additionally, while at Square Roots, I did research to aid in understanding various aspects of farming, nutrient quality, and produce.

      • Through NYU’s Dietetic Internship program, I also did a rotation at NYU’s Pediatric Dental Clinic. Here, I was exposed to another way that nutrition can be utilized, and I provided nutrition education to both kids and parents. My experience with NYU’s Dietetic Internship program prepared me for a career in many areas of nutrition.
